Stripchat.com is an international adult website and social network that offers free live webcam performances. These performances often feature nudity and sexual activity and are available through traditional, virtual reality and mobile broadcasts.
The site attracts over 400 million visitors each month, according to SimilarWeb. Since its launch in 2016, Stripchat has won several awards, including “Cam Site of the Year” and “Cam Company of the Year” at the 2020 XBIZ Europa Awards.
Stripchat has gained mainstream attention with its controversial campaigns and offers. For example, it offered $15 million to rename the New Orleans Superdome and provided jobs to crew members who left the set of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” after a rant by Tom Cruise.
COVID-19
In 2020, Stripchat and other cam sites experienced significant growth due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the lockdowns in March 2020, site visits increased by 25% in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. Even after most restrictions were lifted, traffic kept rising reaching nearly 120 million visits in August 2020, compared to about 60 million in January 2020, reversing the usual traffic trends.
By November 2020, monthly visits to the site had more than doubled compared to the previous year. During this time the number of models on the site grew by 300,000. A Stripchat representative told BBC News that many traditional adult performers switched to camming due to the halt in production on traditional porn sets. Additionally, other sex workers and amateurs joined the platform. To manage the increased competition from new performers Stripchat offered free tokens to attract new users.
Many new users on Stripchat resulted from changing work patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to data from June 2020, 75% of site visitors accessed the site between 10 AM and 6 PM.
Stripchat comes on the 46th rank on similarweb among the most viewed websites worldwide.
In June 2020, with many businesses still shut down, Stripchat offered free advertising to small businesses. The company invited small businesses to send in branded clothing which would be distributed to the platform’s most popular models. Several businesses participated including an art supply company, an erectile dysfunction device maker, a photography studio and a makeup artist. The models wore these clothes during their shows.
Sexuality Resource Center
Besides its adult content, Stripchat runs the Sexuality Resource Center which offers videos of therapists answering questions about sex and relationship issues. Starting in July 2019, the site began hosting live stream sessions with licensed therapists from the Sexual Health Alliance. This initiative followed a study that revealed many users felt anxious about their cam viewing habits.
Sports Partnerships
Stripchat has actively pursued partnerships with professional athletes and sports organizations. In 2020, the company offered the New Orleans Saints $15 million to gain naming rights for the Superdome. In March 2021, Stripchat made a £20 million bid to replace Pirelli as the main sponsor of the Inter Milan football team after Pirelli’s long-standing deal ended.
In May 2021, UFC fighter Nick Diaz partnered with Stripchat to conduct self-defense webinars.
